The tape spilled out, or the batteries gave up halfway through the song, and you turned the hub by hand. The hexagonal barrel fit it perfectly. Nobody taught us that. We just knew.

Slowly, too. Winding it fast is how you creased the tape.

We got very good at this, and we were the last people who ever needed to be. It has not come up since.

Printed on a Comfort Colors® 1717 — garment-dyed, heavyweight, soft on day one and softer after that.
